Why I built Soquel

One of the things I constantly miss about Linux is the ability to rice and customize things till my computer gives way and heats up and stops working. Such joy simply does not exist on a Mac. Mac has a different type of joy - things looking clean, and just working. However, there are exceptions to this, primarily the finder app (along with the garbage that is Apple Music). Finder just simply does not work, there are no easy ways to copy files, no easy way to open the terminal right there, no way to go up the tree path without following Apple's insane design choices. If you zip things together, they give you a weird little DS_Store.

DS_Store is a config file on a per folder level, but why does it get added to the fucking ZIP or GIT, I don't know. Soquel stores folder-level configs like a normal system - locally and privately.

The other thing that pisses me off is the search. A search should be fast, semantic, but also look inside text files and PDFs. A search that truly works with you without spamming you is good, similar to how IDEs do it. This concept is foreign to Finder, which forces search to be global first, but poorly so.

Lastly, you can quit Soquel. You can't quit finder. It takes a lot of work to replace Finder with Soquel and to turn off Finder for real, for ever, but it's possible. I'll add instructions separately.
